About us & Photo Gallery
Take a look at the Liedjiesbos . . .
Let us introduce ourselves
The owners, Dawie Human and Henning de Bruin are passionate about making a difference in saving the environment that we live in and their efforts can be seen in every aspect of the business, the indigenous gardens, rain tanks, water treatment systems, vegetable gardens and environmentally friendly home, architecturally designed by one of Bloemfontein’s top architect practices – Smit Architects. The owners have been inspired to plant only indigenous plants, and to do things as organically as possible. This stretches to the accommodation, slow food ingredients for breakfast, bath products and supplies. The buildings on the property used to be unsightly barns that are now beautiful architectural structures blending harmoniously into the Free State landscape. The buildings where designed to use as little energy as possible for heating and cooling of the interiors and most of the original building materials where re-used or recycled. Energy saving devices and solar geysers where also installed to reduce the carbon footprint.
The interior of the main building reflects the owners’ love for art, antiques and travel. The décor is a blend of old and new, African, Egyptian, Chinese, Vietnamese and more. All this creates an interesting environment with a chic, yet well lived in, and comfortable feel.
Conference centers, the city center, Loch Logan Waterfront, Mimosa Mall, hospitals, schools and universities as well as tourist attractions are all within a short drive. Each of the five rooms are luxuriously equipped with cotton percale bedding and sheep’s wool duvet, TV/DSTV, full en-suite bathroom, electronic safe, electric blanket and coffee & tea facilities. All rooms are non-smoking.
Child policy: No children under the age of 10 years old.
Pets: No pets allowed please.
How it all came to be…
Here at Liedjiesbos B&B we consider ourselves part of the environment, we understand that there are others who share our planet and so try our best to accommodate everyone.
There will be beautiful bird sounds early in the morning or frogs late at night, you may hear the resident owls or see the odd spider – enjoy them with us.
Most of our green food, flowers and fruit are grown on the premises. All our other supplies are sourced from within 200km from us – abiding by the policy of the Slow Food movement.
We use water sparingly and treat, and re-use every drop again for our 400 fruit trees.
Please enjoy our indigenous garden, we are proudly South African when it comes to our environment and invite you to be inspired!
A small library is available in the living room section. Feel free so page through our beautiful books about food, architecture, travel and nature. Binoculars also available for the bird watchers!
